Writing in U.S. News and World Report, Betsy Streisand offers this very complete look at non-surgical alternatives to a face lift. Her conclusion: treatments like Botox and Restalyne are extremely safe, very effective, and much less costly than going under the knife. She offers good advice about choosing a medical provider, and tells you what you should expect to pay. If you're thinking about any of those procedures, or just want to know more for future reference, this is a great place to start.

The Botox Blog

Have you used botox? Do you have a story you want to tell? Then check out The Botox Blog, just launched by GetBeautyTips.com. Of course, they're hoping lots of people will stop by to read those stories. The site says it's not a scientific study, but they want to get to the bottom of the botox craze. (The "bottom?" Maybe they're a little mixed up about where one takes the injections). Herbal Supplement Dangers?

According to this article, a study has shown that patients who take herbal supplements may suffer side effects after cosmetic surgery. A doctor from the supplement industry disputes the study, but to be safe, he suggests telling your surgeon about any herbal supplements you're taking. And he calls on doctors to educate themselves in the field so as to better advise their patients.

Now, a plastic surgeon in Pittsburgh says he has proof: his survey of post-op patients shows a lot of positives, including greater sexual satisfaction. No California Sales Tax on Cosmetic Medical Treatments

California tax regulators voted to exempt several cosmetic treatments from sales tax, including breast implants, collagen, and Botox. The reason: it's too hard to tell which are medically necessary, and which are purely cosmetic. Here's more.

Complications Unrelated to Duration of Anesthesia

A Yale School of Medicine researcher has reported that cosmetic surgery patients who are under anesthesia for more than four hours do not suffer more complications than patients who are under for shorter durations. This directly refutes actions taken by states like Pennsylvania and Tennessee, which have mandated that
surgeries longer than four hours be performed in an inpatient facility.

Free Plastic Surgery For Military

WCBS in New York went undercover to expose a perk that's offered to members of the military: free cosmetic surgery. In the year 2003, there were about a thousand procedures performed, including liposuctions, face lifts, and breast augmentations (the soldiers do pay the cost of implants). Is this really such a big deal? Is this not the least we can provide the people who are sacrificing so much for their country? British Asians Getting Surgery in India
